Our third riding day was the Great Smoky Mountains Loop. Following the route highlighted in yellow, this was a 141 mile route that would take us more that 5 hours.
Smoky Mountains LoopOnce again we started on Moonshiner 28 and had to drive the Tail of the Dragon one last time. Today was Friday and the roads were busy, with close to a million people expected to pass through the area to witness the incredible colours.Smoky Mountain LoopSmoky Mountain Loop
We both agreed that the Smoky Mountain Loop was the best riding that we have ever done…so far. The roads were twisty and windy and the views were spectacular. As we followed the Little Tennessee River the curves got tighter and the views of the flowing river and waterfalls were amazing.

We found a great area to enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing our journey back.
Lunch Stop Along Little Tennessee RiverThis route is highly recommended and was our favourite out of the 3 rides we chose to do. Not sure how we missed this one last time but we were happy to have found it.

Our last full day at Fontana Village we decided to spend a relaxing afternoon hiking. The Village has 12 biking and hiking trails that surround the property and we spent 4 hours exploring some of them.

Then it was back to our cabin to pack up for our 2 day drive home.Fontana Village CabinThere are only two roads for us to take to get to HWY 411 in Tennessee to head home and one of them is the Tail of the Dragon. Although that is the shorter way we didn’t want to drive it towing the trailer. So it was back across the Cherohala Skyway one last time. We left out one of the bikes so we could take turns riding while the other followed in the Jeep again. We stopped in Tellico Plains and loaded up the motorcycle and headed home from the ultimate fall colour run!!
